What is Conversion Rate? The Most Important Metric in Marketing
Q: Why are we spending so much on ads but not getting sign-ups or sales? Is there a way to measure true marketing success?
The Conversion Rate is the percentage of visitors to your website or app who complete a desired goal or action (such as making a purchase, signing up for an account, downloading an app, or subscribing to a newsletter).
No matter how much money you spend on advertising to drive traffic, your business won't survive if those visitors leave without taking action. Therefore, the conversion rate is the most critical metric for evaluating the success of a marketing campaign or product design.
How to Calculate Conversion Rate
(Number of Conversions / Total Number of Visitors) × 100
- Example: If 1,000 people visit your landing page and 50 of them sign up for a waitlist.
- Conversion Rate = (50 / 1000) × 100 = 5%
How to Improve Conversion Rate?
- Place the most critical information that customers are looking for at the very top (above the fold).
- Use clear and compelling CTAs (Calls to Action).
- Minimize the number of steps (friction) required to sign up or check out.
